What is Playful?
Playful is a new way to make the apps you wish existed, for yourself or the people in your life. We call it homemade software.
What can I make?
Personal mini apps that you create. The good ones are usually specific: a reunion planner for your family, a recipe box everyone adds to, a quiz only your friends would get.
Some apps are just for you. Others are made to share.
Is there an app to download?
A Playful app for the App Store is coming. In the meantime Playful runs straight from your browser, so there's nothing to install.
Mobile or desktop, your choice.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Try Playful for free, no card needed. Make a few apps, use apps people share with you, and explore Homemade, Playful's magazine, where you can find apps real people made for the people in their lives.
Each app you make stays awake for 30 days, so you can use it, change it and share it. After that it goes to sleep until you become a member. Nothing is deleted.
If you reach your free limit, your apps still work. Become a member to keep making changes and building new apps.

Membership is $10 a month. As a member, your apps stay awake, and your build, edit and remix allowance refills every month, enough to make a few apps, including customizing apps from Homemade and using AI features.
Memberships renew monthly, and you can cancel anytime.
What counts toward my limit?
We keep this simple on purpose. Making changes and building new apps count toward your limit, and we'll let you know when you're getting close.
Apps with AI features, like image or video generation or web search, reach it faster.
Do the people I share with need an account?
Usually not. Share an app with a link and people just open it, with no account and no download.
Ask for a sign in when you want an app kept close. It's the more private option, because only the people you choose can open it. Any app you set to private asks for a sign in by default.
People will also sign in if your app needs to know who they are, like to save their preferences or send them notifications.
Who can see what I make?
Your app is yours to keep private or share. Keep it to yourself, share it with only the people you choose, or share a link anyone can open. You decide for each app in its share settings.
When you're trying Playful for free, the people you share with can also remix your app to make their own version. Your app stays exactly as you made it. Members can turn remix off for each app.
If an app goes to sleep, nothing is lost. Once you have an active membership, it's back exactly as you made it, and everyone you shared it with can open it again.
How do I cancel my membership?
Select "Billing" in the user menu, and you'll find the option to cancel there. Your membership lasts to the end of the billing period, and then your apps go to sleep.
