What is Playful?

Playful is a new way to make the apps you wish existed, for yourself or the people in your life. We call it homemade software.

What can I make?

Personal mini apps that you create. The good ones are usually specific: a reunion planner for your family, a recipe box everyone adds to, a quiz only your friends would get.

Some apps are just for you. Others are made to share.

Think of an app you wish existed for yourself, someone in your life, or a moment coming up. Start there.

Is there an app to download?

A Playful app for the App Store is coming. In the meantime Playful runs straight from your browser, so there's nothing to install.

Can I try it first?

Yes. To get you started, your first 10K credits are on us. That's typically enough to make your first app and keep working on it.

No credit card at signup, and nothing is charged when the credits run out.

Your credits and your apps are good for 30 days. After that your apps go dormant until you add credits to your account.

What does it cost?

Credits are what making and changing an app uses. Opening an app someone shared with you doesn't use your credits.

AI features use credits too. If you make an app with AI in it, those features run on your credits, including when the people you shared it with use them.

Your account holds three kinds: free trial credits that come with your account, member credits at a discounted rate, and add on credits you buy when you want them.

Do the people I share with need an account?

Usually not. Share an app with a link and people just open it, with no account and no download.

Ask for a sign in when you want an app kept close. It's the more private option, because only the people you choose can open it. Any app you set to private asks for a sign in by default.

Whether they can change anything is up to you as well. If you want an app anyone can edit, ask for that when you're making it.

Who can see what I make, and who owns it?

Yours to share or keep private. You decide, per app, every time. No ads, no data sold.

You own what you make. Hosting is on us, so the people you share with can open your app with a link for as long as your account has credits.

Where do I get help?

Email help@playful.app for anything to do with your account, your credits, or something that isn't working. We read every one of these.

Our Discord is where the community is. People show what they're making, swap ideas and work things out together, and we run live tips and tricks every week.
